Molly Kearney, Beer Club Manager at Hope Estate, attended the presentation ceremony and accepted the Champion Trophy on behalf of Matt Hogan, Michael Hope and the Hope Brewery Team.
Head brewer Matt Hogan said, “We feel like we’ve won the AFL Premiership! The Sydney Royal Beer & Cider Show hands out the fewest trophys and winning a champion trophy for the third year in a row is no small feat. We know all of our beers are a very high quality but it’s really great to go through a blind judging, by our industry peers, and come out with a result like this. We really hope that this will showcase the consistency of our range. We want our customers to know that when they buy from the Hope range, they’re getting really great beer!”
The Champion winning Imperial Stout, evolved from the Stout Porter, which was a very popular style in London in the 1800s. Imperial Stout is a warm-fermented ale style that is distinguished by its dark, opaque deep brown or black colour and it’s distinct roasted character. This rich flavour is often perceived as dark chocolate or coffee and is moreish to taste. Sitting perfectly in the middle of the sweet to dry spectrum, the Imperial Stout is stylish in it’s harmony of hops and malt. Barrel aged in reclaimed French oak hogheads, this adds a subtle complexity without any oaky dominance. It’s an Imperial, next level, strong beer and worthy of the winning title.
Brewery owner Michael Hope said, “When I got the call from Molly about the wins, my first thought was holy shit – this is a big deal! This is not just us saying ‘this is good beer’. I was just blown away to have the Sydney Royal judges saying wow they’re making good beer!”
